Overview

Nova Scotia, known for its vibrant culture and scenic landscapes, invites professionals, business people, and students to settle in the province through the Nova Scotia Nominee Program (NSNP). This program offers a faster route to Canadian Permanent Residency.

Nova Scotia Demand: Express Entry

Utilizing the federal government’s Express Entry system, Nova Scotia selects candidates for this program, which targets highly-skilled individuals with post-secondary education. To be eligible, candidates need a minimum score of 67 out of 100 based on factors like education, language skills, work experience, age, and adaptability. Additionally, candidates must have:

At least one year of recent work experience in one of 29 in-demand occupations.
Intermediate language proficiency in English or French, evidenced by a standardized test (IELTS, CELPIP, or TEF), achieving a minimum of CLB 7 in all components.

The program has two categories:

Category 1: Requires a job offer from a Nova Scotian employer, backed by a positive Labour Market Impact Assessment.
Category 2: Requires recent work experience in one of the specified in-demand occupations.

Skilled Worker Stream

This stream includes three categories, each with specific criteria:

Skilled Workers: For individuals in NOC level 0, A, or B occupations. High-skilled applicants are prioritized.
Semi-Skilled Workers: For those in NOC level C occupations. Eligibility requires at least six months of work with a supporting Nova Scotian employer. Priority is given to those with employers committed to supporting newcomers’ settlement needs.
Low-Skilled Workers: For individuals in NOC level D occupations. Applicants need at least six months of work with a Nova Scotian employer, with priority given to those supported by employers focused on assisting with settlement needs.

General Criteria for the Skilled Worker Stream:

Legal status in Canada if currently residing there.
Age between 21 and 55.
Full-time, permanent job offer from a Nova Scotia employer.
Minimum high school education (12 years).
Necessary education, training, and licenses for the job in Canada.
At least 12 months of relevant work experience.
Language proficiency: CLB level 5 for NOC 0, A, or B; CLB level 4 for NOC C or D.
Intent and ability to settle in Nova Scotia.
