Home Child Care Provider and Home Support Worker Program
Home Child-Care Provider and Home Support Worker Pilots
With Canada’s aging workforce and increasing demand for caregivers, the Federal Government introduced two immigration programs in June 2019: the Home Child-Care Provider Pilot and the Home Support Worker Pilot. These programs offer a pathway for foreign caregivers to work in Canada and obtain permanent residency.
Home Child-Care Provider Pilot:
- Targeted towards foreign nationals with experience in NOC 4411.
- Applicants must have experience providing in-home care for children under 18 years old, either in the child’s or employer’s home.
- Foster parents are not eligible under this pilot.
Home Support Worker Pilot:
- Designed for individuals with work experience in NOC 4412.
- Suitable for applicants with experience as Home Support Workers, excluding housekeepers.
Features of the Pilots:
- These five-year programs allow eligible caregivers and their families to immigrate to Canada and pursue permanent residence.
- The application process varies based on the candidate’s work experience.
- Applicants must apply for a work permit alongside their permanent residence application.
- Successful candidates receive an occupation-restricted open work permit, enabling them to work for any employer (except those on the government’s blacklist).
- After obtaining 24 months of required work experience, candidates can submit proof to finalize their permanent residency application.
Essential Requirements:
- Job Offer: Candidates need a Canadian job offer to start the process.
- Work Experience: Minimum of 1 year of relevant experience. The work permit helps gain the necessary 2 years of experience for permanent residency.
- Language Proficiency: Must meet CLB level 5 (IELTS 5 in Listening, Writing, Speaking, and 4 in Reading).
- Educational Requirements: At least one year of Canadian post-secondary education or its foreign equivalent, validated by an ECA report.
Application Process:
- Receive an Offer of Employment (IMM 5983 E) from a Canadian employer.
- Obtain IELTS and ECA credentials.
- Apply for Permanent Residency and Work Permit simultaneously.
- If eligible, apply for an Open Work Permit from your home country.
- Work Permit processed within 45 days, allowing the applicant to bring family to Canada.
- Gain required work experience in Canada to become eligible for Permanent Residency.
