Yukon PNP Community Pilot Program
Program Introduction
Initiated in July 2020, the Yukon Community Pilot (YCP) is a branch of the Yukon Nominee Program, offering a streamlined process for foreign workers to settle in Canada. This program exempts participants from needing a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA).
Eligibility for a 2-year open work permit under YCP includes holding a permanent residence nomination from Yukon. The pilot aims to invigorate the economies of several Yukon communities:
- Whitehorse
- Watson Lake
- Dawson City
- Haines Junction
- Carmacks
- Carcross
Work Permit Features:
- Employment with up to 3 different employers in a participating community.
- Valid for 2 years.
- No LMIA required.
Work Permit Requirements:
- 2 or 3 job offers from employers in a Yukon community.
- A letter of support from the Government of Yukon.
- Fulfilling general work permit prerequisites.
- Relevant work experience.
Job Offer Criteria:
- All jobs located in the same Yukon community.
- Cumulative 30+ hours per week.
- Non-seasonal roles.
- Wages at or above Yukon’s minimum wage.
- Demonstrable experience for job responsibilities.
Yukon Provincial Nominee Program (YPNP) Nomination:
Application through either the Skilled Worker Program (for NOC 0, A, and B occupations) or the Critical Impact Worker Program (for NOC C & D occupations) is necessary.
Eligibility for Skilled Worker Program:
- Job offer from a Yukon employer.
- At least 1 year of related work experience.
- Language proficiency (CLB 7 for NOC 0/A; CLB 5 for NOC B).
Eligibility for Critical Impact Worker Program:
- Language proficiency with CLB 4 in English or French.
- Intention to reside in Yukon.
Applicants need a Government of Yukon support letter detailing the job offer. This letter should confirm the employer’s need for the applicant in the community.
Processing time for permanent residency is about 12-18 months.
Yukon Community Pilot (YCP) Alternative:
YCP enables applicants to apply for an open work permit after nomination and PR filing, allowing arrival in Canada within 2-3 months.
