Overview

The Federal Skilled Trades Class is a part of Canada’s economic immigration programs, targeting skilled tradespersons worldwide who aim to become permanent residents of Canada.

Application Process Change:

To be eligible for the FSTC program, candidates must:

  • Have at least two years of full-time (or equivalent part-time) work experience in a skilled trade within the past five years.
  • Possess a valid full-time job offer for a minimum of one year with a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) approval, or a qualification certificate in their trade from a Canadian authority.
  • Meet language proficiency requirements, with a minimum of Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 5 for speaking and listening, and CLB 4 for reading and writing in English. For French, it’s Niveaux de compétence linguistique canadien (NCLC) 5 for speaking and listening, and NCLC 4 for reading and writing.
  • Fulfill job requirements for their skilled trade as per the National Occupational Classification (NOC), except for the qualification certificate.

Application Process for FSTC:

  • Confirm you meet all eligibility criteria.
  • Create an Express Entry profile.
  • Await an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residency.
  • Undergo a medical exam by an IRCC-approved physician and provide a police clearance certificate; submit an electronic application.
  • Receive confirmation of your permanent resident status and prepare for your move to Canada.

The FSTC offers skilled tradespeople a clear path to Canadian permanent residency, recognizing their valuable skills and experience.
